She was known to be homozygous for a rare and severe form of cystic fibrosis with a mutation, described among Jewish people of Georgian descent, in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator gene: Q359K/T360K. The patient had previous multisystem complications related to her cystic fibrosis—namely pancreatic insufficiency, chronic rhinosinusitis, and advanced bronchiectasis in the upper lung lobes (figure).
